keyword : potential. the sperm has the potential to become a human, granted the sperm meets an egg and they unite and yada yada. So yes the sperm has the potential to be a human being, more so than other objects such as a frying pan

No. There is a potential human being (or organism of whatever kind) in an uncombined sperm and ovum, but a sperm alone or an ovum alone cannot be considered a potential organism.

You could say that the potential for a clap exists when two hands are present; but not when one hand is present. When two elements are absolutely essential to the formation of an entity, there is no potential for that entity's existence unless both elements are present.
