They only let in certain light waves (not sure if it's vertical or Horizontal), which reduces glare, the advantage is that when used for fishing, you can look down into the water, as where reg. sun glasses stop at the surface, some swear by them, others say it is debatable if they are any better than reg sunglasses with the same U.V. protection rating.

Two ways. The darkened lenses reduce the amount of light that passes through them.

Polarization limits the direction from which light rays will pass through.

Over 66 years ago it was proposed that automobile windshields be polarized in one direction, and headlights in another. The result would be that while one could see oncoming headlights they would not be blinding,and hide objects ahead from view. I wonder why it shouldn't have been done.
