Clinton and the Republican Congress did it together. The year 1997 was one in which there was extraordinarily high amount of agreement between Clinton and Congress, unlike the years of 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000.

No Clinton bashing but the facts don't bear you out. There were many years of balanced budgets from 1970's until now - as well as many unbalanced. Revenues increased AFTER tax cuts of the Reagan presidency and created a booming economy in the 90's. Congress also plays a leading role in spending. Look at all the pork - its more than revenues thus creating a deficit.

First of all, he did NOT balance anything. He used the SAME TRICK every other politician has used since the budget was exceeded during WWII. Yes, he managed to bring things down a bit. But look at the cost: He cut the military budget while adventuring all around the world, using up our military capacity. THAT's why Bush had to spend so much on the military when he entered office. Then of course, 9/11 didn't help matters any!

Clinton was only partially responsible. congress, and the senate are the purse holders . It would be nice for more citizens to appreciate what he did politically, and fiscally, then his personal problems. As far as being the most conservative, I would disagree. Although he might be remembered as the most conservative Democrat in the last century.

Right

Clinton was a Republican posing as a Blue.

Look at his record of accomplishments GATT NAFTA etc. All RED politics.

Actually the diametric opposite of Bush. Elected Red but Blue in spending and war starting.

Go big Red Go

Do none of you wonder how he accomplished this miraculous feat? He raped the Social Security Trust Fund and used our future to balance his budget. Now we continually hear how Social Security is going to run out of money in a few short years. Think about this, when you retire, there won't be squat there for you. How do you like that?

Here is a historical fact. The republicans run the country into debt while they say the democrats are the party of tax and spend. George W. Bush is a perfect example of that fact.

I agree 100%, Clinton's administration did quite a good job to boost the American economy, not like Bush who's spending all the money in a fruitless war that was started only by his greed for oil.
