Do you agree that couples of the same sex should 1; be allowed to call themselves united as in a marriage. 2; get the same rights as hetro couples .

By the way all you bible bashers out there what on earth has the opinions of a fake man whom supposidly lived millions of years ago got to do with youre opinion . Cant you make youre own judgement with out going on about what would God etc do . Its youre opinion I asked for . Some people have given great answers but please get off the God thing that certainly isnt relevant . If there was a God or Jesus Im sure that seeing as though most of his friends were Men and he supposidly never had a Girl he was Probably Gay so these rights would apply to him dont you think :-)

I read your question and my answer to it is no no no but I do have a problem with the way you talked about my god and his word some of us choose to live our lives by his word so we don,t have to ask questions like the ones you asked I know you have a lot of problems going on inside and I pray you resolve them I know you can because at one time I WAS JUST LIKE YOU peace

I think same sex couples should be allowed some kind of union with just the same legal rights and responsibilities as marriage (e.g. one union at a time, can only be dissolved by legal process etc). If the various religious communities want to put a 'trade mark' on the word 'marriage' that's fine. Lets just have another, more inclusive, word.

I'm less convinced about same sex couples being the best environment for raising children. That would be my one concern about saying yes to same rights.

I was raised in a family of two women (my mother and grandmother) and no men and it has certainly made me reflect over the years on how this has affected my view of the world. Its not really a question of biological gender so much as adult male and female psychology being present in the home environment. I'm sure there are lots of other environements where this is lacking (one parent away from home a lot, for instance) but this is an issue that gives me pause in 'rights' for same sex couples.

I think they should be allowed to marry AND have the same rights as hetero couples. Whose business is it but theirs anyway? So many people are SOOO nosey and meddlesome. I say live & let live. I know of hetero couples who have married for reasons other than love... yet those unions are "legal". How & why is that fair, if two people of the same sex love & care about one another CAN'T have a relationship that's legally recognized as a marriage? For so many hetero couples, it's nothing more than a piece of paper... some of us hetero people run through marriages like they're fashion fads. It's sad... if two people love each other, why shouldn't they be allowed a union through marriage and have the same rights, respects, and liberties as everyone else that's "married"?

Of course gay couples should be allowed to marry, and have the same rights as hetro couples.

Funnily enough, i'm going to a gay wedding on Saturday and i can't wait.

These 2 ladies have been together for many years, and now have decided to make things legal.

Good on em.

Er yes and yes, the validity of someones relationship should be defined by their commitment to each other rather than appeasing the uptights and god squaders who foam at the mouth because a man or women may get off on (shock horror!!) someone of the same sex.

FFS its the 21st century, the planet is (alledgedly) about to go into meltdown, theres nutjobs all over the shop that want to blow up innocents because they're all pissed off about stuff and people are getting all steamed up about whether someones banging someone with the same cheeky bits.

Apologies to the religious nutters - no i dont agree with you, i'd rid the world of you lot before persecute same sex couples. Buggered any choirboys lately?

Whatever happened to "family values"? Why is this question even controversial? Couples who want to commit to each other in a lasting and legally binding way should be encouraged. Black, white, blue, and gay. Who cares. We have gotten so caught up in other people's business that we aren't noticing that more people are waiting longer to get married and some never do. Tons of kids are growing up with single parents. Most studies show that kids do better in homes with happily commited parents. Yet there are families out there that want to adopt unwanted kids that can't or have road blocks put in their way because they don't fit society's idea of the "ideal" couple. I am hetrosexual and feel lucky that I am the socially accepted norm. My heart goes out to all of you that aren't. I won't stand in your way of creating a happy family.

I believe in love and maybe I'm a soppy stupid romantic but if they love each other the couple are entitled to live and be who and how they want to be (marriage, kids etc) regardless of their sex.

I have a two female friends who are very much in love. They live together, will soon be marrying and already have a beautiful, well loved, well behaved little boy and i could not be happier for them.

Why shouldn't they have the same rights as everyone else? You can't help who you fall in love with!

Yes. 100% No questions asked.

Marriage is about a commitment between two people and it shouldn't be about sexual orientation.

Same sex unions get my vote.

Before anyone tries to undermine me, I''m hetro. But believe in the rights of everyone.

This a legal issue. Not a moral or religious one. LEGAL NORMS ARE NOT MORAL NORMS.

IF SOMEONE HERE CAN'T TELL A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MORAL NORM AND A LEGAL NORM, THEN HE/SHE HAS NO BUSINESS ANSWERING THIS QUESTION.

So I have a four questions for you:

Why should this be a democratic issue at all???

Aren't all individuals entitled to the same rights? So, a gay man can't marry because he chose to marry another man?

Doesn't an individual in a long term relationship (regardless of the gender of his/her partner) need certain rights protected?

What does everyone else LOSE by allowing gay people to marry?
