Of course it's legal. From an employer's point of view and a legal standpoint, you are there to work, not email your boyfriend/girlfriend. Yeah, everyone does it. The key is to be like a stealth and fly under the radar.

Yes, it's legal for an employer to monitor your activities on their equipment and service. They pay for the internet service as well as the computer, you have no real right to use them for personal purposes. You wouldn't be able to sit on the phone making personal calls all day, why should you be able to do so on the internet?

As to how far, any an all activities that are done through their computers are considered their property to include your company email address.

You are using their equipment, and their connection. Various court rulings agree you have no expectation of privacy. They can monitor the sites you visit, and read anything you upload to a blog, or enter on a website, as well as reading any email you send/receive in your company email account.

They can also install key logging software on your computer that records what you type and when. These programs can also report when you STOP typing, so if your job was mainly keyboarding, they could tell when you took breaks.

Yes, its totally legal.
Your time is their property. They own the equipment and the service and they kind of own you too, only you can quit and dont need to be sold.
Welcome to the real world!
I say, give something to talk about!

Yes they can monitor as much as they like, since it is their equipment, their connection to the internet, and you are their employee.

Not fun, but true.

They can monitor ANY traffic on their equipment/network.
