I read to wash newborns clothes in mild detergent or if your machine has the option to extra rinse then choose that, but mine doesn't. So is there a certain type of detergent that is a "mild detergent" or what does that mean? What is recommended?

Dye and fragrance free, mainly but you could use Dreft or Ivory Snow, too. Some people think that's a crock to pay for the Dreft or Ivory Snow, but honestly, my kids had to have it...I tried everything, even the extra rinse and nothing worked for thier delicate skin, except the fancy stuff. I would try a regular dye/fragrance free detergant first. It should be fine!

I just regular Gain detergent on my son's clothes. He never had a reaction. My friend's son has sensitive skin and she uses Dreft. Look in the stores, you'll find them in the same aisle as the other detergents. They won't get the stains out. You'll need stain remover, too. I like the "stick" Spray n' Wash. You are going to be doing a LOT of washing. Good Luck and Best Wishes!

I always used a detergent called Dreft, it is for baby clothes. I think Purex now makes a baby friendly detergent. I think its more of using something that does not have strong dyes and scents that may cause allergice reaction.
on another note, get a sweater bag to wash baby socks etc in, the washer has a nice way of sucking up baby socks once in a while lol

Use Dreft, sold in the baby department of most stores. Also, that one dry detergent called Ivory Snow. (Is that the right name?) It's only a precaution until you know that your baby isn't sensitive to the regular detergents. You could try using the regular one that you use, and then if the baby gets a rash or hives, only use the mild one on his clothes.

I would use dryel or another home "dry cleaning" product. I've had good results with all the name brand products. I've used the products for 4-5 times between taking the item to the dry cleaner. I'd use the dryel instead of the hand washing method. Dryel costs about $1.00 per use and can do 1-4 items at a time. Some items can be hand washed in cool water with a non enzyme detergent made specifically for hand washing. I'd be very leary of using a washing machine unless it has a delicate or wool/silk setting and a temperature selector as the agitation/heat can damage dry clean only items. You can not use a dryer to dry the items--lay flat only.

at the supermarket you can buy baby detergent or mild detergent for sensitive skin. it always helps to add some sensitive fabric softener so the clothes stay fluffy.

We just used a liquid Detergent. My son NEVER had a rash, but, I kept his Diaper changed too, pee or poo. If, you want to do an extra rinse, when the washer stop, turn the knob around to the last rinse setting and let it rinse again.

Use your regular detergent, just buy the "Free & Clear" version without scents or dyes. That way you can wash everything together, and it's perfectly safe.
