It doesn't always work. My doc tried it with me with my first (without my consent!). I didn't have him for another week.

I have heard that if you have your membranes stripped, you'll be more likely to go into labor if you have sex.

There is no evidence that this works. In fact, many OBs now consider it to be no better than many of the old wives tales about starting labor. Plus, why do it? The baby will come in his/her own time. Why the hurry. With my first my membranes were stripped and I still didn't have the baby for two weeks. I actually never went into labor and had to have a c-section. With my second they never stripped my membranes and I went into labor all on my own the day after his due date.

When my doc stripped my membranes it took me about 12 hours to go into labor. For some women it can take less and for some more but generally I have heard it's within 24 hours. Best of luck!! Congrats!

My doctor did that on Feb 20... to me... and I didnt deliver until Feb 27. It doesnt always work. She told me if I didnt go into labor after 12 hours of having it done, it didnt take... I believe it depends on the woman, and on how dialated your cervix becomes! Good luck!

For me, my water broke within 6-8 hours and then I had my boy a few hours after that. How far along are you? If you're close to your due date, it usually works, as far as I've heard.
