It seems as though on MTV today you will see an excessive amount of rap and hip hop music mostly by Black artists. Shouldn't MTV start playing some different types of music? Rock, Ska, Punk,Reggae,etc.? I personally believe that MTV should play less hip hop and rap due to there already is a channel for it, BET. Does anybody agree or have a reason why the channel plays so much "Black" music?

excuse me, but what exactly is black music? music is labeled by genre (i.e. rap, pop, country) not by color!
btw, mtv probably plays more hip-hop/rap because that is the most requested/most popular genre right now.

I sure do. In fact, I remember hanging out in a radio station I worked at part-time long after the offices closed because they had MTV and I couldn't get cable where I lived! "Favorite shows?" No, when I watched MTV there WERE NO SHOWS. It was just wall-to-wall videos. Favorite VJ: JJ Jackson. Favorite video: Dave Edmunds' "I Knew the Bride (When She Used to Rock and Roll)."

dude mtv plays whatever the voters deem popular. back in the 90s more people liked rock now its rap. so get use to it. its not going to change till the genral public likes a different type of music.

I hope you understand that MTV is a business not a non-profit broadcasting program. They play the music that "everybody" loves, and their sponsors are what keep them in business.Looking at the big picture. That would be why they play such crappy music

"Black" music as you call it is very popular today and sells well...for whatever reason. Personally I think it's intolerable sh**, but that's just me. I guess they did it for the same reason they came up with other crap shows like The Real World and all of it's spawn of reality tv sh**. A majority of people watch that kind of crap while those of us with taste have to sit and suffer through it.

"black music" what does that even mean, that's kinda racist... i dunno, i tought there was genre of music, like pop, rap, r&b, rock....btw you mentionned why they don't play reggae, i don't know many white reggea artist, so what are you saying???? hip-hop is in now and mtv is following the trend. simple as that.
