Not all of Canada is colder than the United States. Most of it is, however, and that's because it's further north--farther away from the equator. The sun's rays concentrate near the equator, so the farther away a place is from there, the colder it generally is.

Canada isn't colder than the United States. Alaska is colder than most parts of Canada -- especially the West Coast of Canada in the Lower Mainland region (around Vancouver). Parts of Canada are colder than the US, because most of Canada is farther north than most of the US. But coastal areas don't get as cold as the central prairies, where arctic low cold fronts bring temperatures in the -30 and -40 range. As Canada is such a large country (larger than the United States) you would have to be more specific in your question and define which parts of which country you are comparing.

Canada is colder than the USA because it is farther away from the equator, which gets the most sunlight (which gives off the heat) and closer to one of the poles, which get the least sunlight (heat.)

It has to do with the curviture of the earth, the suns rays closer to the equator land more concentrated, closer together, earth curves, fall further apart
