I think any thinking person, who is motivated by good intentions for the Iraqi people would want their input into how to improve the country. However, our government, especially the Bush administration that helms it, is hardly filled with people of good intentions, and Bush himself is the anthesis of a thinking person.

One of the above respondents quipped snidely that the mere fact that we had “elections” indicates that we did give the Iraqi people their opportunity to provide input into their own fate. This is hardly accurate, and is at best wishful thinking. The “elections” that transpired in that country were a sham and a mockery of the democratic process, because the Iraqi electorate were limited to choosing candidates that the US decided would be viable leaders. A true autonomous democracy can’t have a foreign agent foist candidates into a race for government and then restrict the people to choosing solely from these candidates.

I am absolutely amazed at how idiotic Bush proponents are in expressing their utter admiration for the supposed “free” elections that transpired in Iraq. Those elections where anything but free. They were in fact manipulated from start to finish by a foreign occupier.

The answer to this question is simple. We don’t get Iraqi input into how to better their country because the powers that be don’t want that to happen. As long as sectarian strife isn’t resolved we will have an excuse to stay in that country. Our continued occupation will in turn create enormous wealth for those defense contractors, engineering/construction firms, and oil companies that are involved in the “rebuilding” and “peacekeeping” efforts in Iraq. It’s called the circle of life, except take out the term “life” and substitute the term “profit”.

The majority of them would probably just like to go back in time to the pre-Iraqi war era, or perhaps even farther back to the period before the United States backed Saddam Hussein as the dictator of Iraq. They'd probably be a lot happier if we didn't meddle in their business quite so much.

They're are too MANY religious fundamentalists with differing opinions. The people have been oppressed for soooooo MANY years that they live in terror daily for fear of what they may or may not believe. This country has no hope as long as each group wants to take TOTAL control of the country. Maybe they should divide these groups, like our states. They could run their own little countries.

I think the Iraqi people have made it perfectly clear as to what they want - total Anarchy, which means absense of rule.Don't forget, Iraq has been in turmoil for a long, long time. War is all they know.

Because they all want something different religiously and faith runs so deep over there that they will kill to keep their ideals and not have any competing ones.(as has been seen by too many soldiers up close)
