I called and talked to the manager of a store last week. I never got his last name. It's too late to ask him directly (don't ask why). I tried calling and asking the employees for his last name. None of them knew/they said they can't give out personal information.

How do I find out his last name?
I've already tried Google.

Yo yo yo! You got to befriend other staff members. Schmooze them, strike up a conversation, buy one of them a lot of drinks, then direct conversations to the last name of the manager. Do it smoothly, though. Don't be like "Oh man... you're really kicking my butt at this Mario Kart Double Dash. By the way... what was the last name of your manager again?"

Or... look for a young dude going in with "snappy" clothing. Ask him to get the last name of the manager when he goes in for the interview.

Watch documentaries about Detectives, private detectives, or read a book about the subject. Those people are good at extracting names from people. Usually, they do it under some pretense. Maybe somebody with extra time who needs some money could get a job and just quit soon after learning the guys name.

Big stores/franchises usually have web pages where you can find the name of the manager.
If that doesn't work, call them and ask for the manager by his real name but a made up last name 'may I speak to Mr. John XXX?' most probably they will tell you that you got a wrong number, so you will reply 'isn't it Mr John XXX the manager?. Chances are they will tell you the name.

Maybe this manager doesn't go by Mr.X with his employees and always stays on a first name basis with workers and customers.

"So why do you need it?" is the real question.
