truck will turn over a revolution , or maybe a bit more , then the turning over of the engine comes to an abrupt stop. The engine can be turned backward by hand , then the same thing happens all over again. I did pull the belt off , thinking possibly the air pump or an idler pully was froze shut ,(not the case). Any sugestions ?

Take off the inspection plate from the transmission, see if you can turn the flywheel by hand past the stopping point of the starter, if you cant see what's binding it up, then you will need to drain the oil and take down the oil pan and see if you can tell from that advantage where it's binding up, check to see if your rod and main caps are properly torqued down to speqs. Then try it again ( use a remote starter button so you can be looking at it when it binds up)if it's still binding....I'm afraid you are going to have to go into the top part of the engine, IE. valve train, push rods rocker arms and shafts, camshaft/gear and timing chain. It's a big job and will probably be something minor, you will just have to find it, and hope you haven't cracked a piston, or a connecting rod...Good Luck you'll need it

Might be that your battery isn't putting out enough Cold Cranking Amps. The colder the weather the more problems you have with an older or undercharged battery. Throw it on a trickle charger for the night and check it again in the morning or at least let it try to charge for a few hours before trying to start it again.

You might have a cylinder full of coolant. Take the plugs out and see if it turns.
