It was in the beginning a great American success company. But like most products and companies, the reality is that nothing is made in America that much anymore. Jobs are outsourced to other countries. You may be correct on a low wage, no benefit, dead end job. But, I hope only Americans do them.

Great success, end of story. Folks, if you have been convinced that it's bad for you to pay lower prices for things, congratulations, you are a moron.

Wal-Mart is a fantastic boon both for the general economy and for peoples' personal finances. Wal-Mart literally takes from the rich (corporations) and gives to the poor (and anyone else who shops there).

A McKinsey study a few years ago showed that Wal-Mart was single handedly responsible for about 40% of the US economy's increased productivity in recent years (that is a good thing).

And oh, if you are not satisfied with Wal-Mart's pay and benefits, I'll remind you that no one has ever yet been forced against their will to work there. Everybody working at Wal-Mart voluntarily went there to apply for a job because that was better than whatever other alternative was available.

Wal-Mart is actually a great American success for Sam Walton, but not after his death. Think about it, Sam Walton had a chance to push his company to be a dominant figure in America, but he never did. Like it or not, he gave outrageous benefits to his employees and worked together with other firms to build stable market. If you read other articles and books, you will find that Sam Walton never quite liked the new ideas that his sons bright to them.
His wife and sons are building what is now known as an evil Wal-Mart. With resources and power that their father built, they overpowered small competitors and still doing the same thing. Yes, they are trying to be efficient, but is it best for the public? I don't know, but I do think that Sam's family is not walking the same path that once Sam Walton did when he was alive.
To their defense, they have right to do what they are doing and democracy and capitalism that we endure allow them to do so. Perhaps, before we criticize them, we should think about our theory of democracy and capitalism. Even though, as the result of Wal-Mart's success, other competitors are pushed to do the same, they have right to do what they are doing. They are only maximizing their profit. As the result, you will see more dead end jobs and nearly no benefits.

It's definately a success story. I mean, how can a company who beats the crap out of its competitors not be considered a success? If you say because it pays low wages etc., well that is a complaint about free-market capitalism in general and not specific to Walmart. All companies strive to minimize costs- Walmart is just good at it.

Well, because of all the other low wage, no benefit, dead end jobs in the USA, many people are grateful for Walmart's low prices, so they can afford to live.

I know this they are the direct cause of so many companies moving their factories to China eliminating a lot of American jobs. Their wages are low and for the most part they keep their employees on a part time basis so they do not have to pay benefits.
I'd say they are more like the cause of the destruction of the middle class in America.

It was the essence of an American success story while Sam Walton lived.

Wal-Mart costs Americans big money. All these low wage people end up on public benefits because Wal-Mart does not offer affordable health insurance. We are subsidizing huge profits through our tax dollars. Wal-Mart has the most dismal record of supporting its employees of any corporation of its size. When the state of Maryland researched large employers that did not offer health insurance, only Wal-Mart showed up.

I believe it is a great success. It is about to sell over 200 drugs for $4.00 each and push others to come down. This is America. They may seem evil, but i think they meet my needs and many others. I don't work there, nor do i have family that work there. I just believe it is a one stop store.. and I like that... and the only thing I hate about them is thier clothes. They don't last so I buy my clothes elsewhere. Thanks!
