That depends on the speed of your system, and the number AND type of files, and partitions on your HD.
EXAMPLES:
I have a system with a 1GHZ CPU with a 80GB HD, 6 partitions, 20,000 files, and a FULL scan, including "archive" files, such as zips, will take about 1 1/2 hours.
I have another with a 4GHZ CPU, a 300GB HD, 4 partitons, 5,000 files, but some VERY large files, and a FULL scan as above takes over 4 hours.
Basically, it takes as long as it takes!!

it incredibly is an prolonged time. it incredibly is that it replaced into cleansing up viruses. What i might do is to ascertain I ran a undercover agent ware software to eliminate courses i did no longer opt for. additionally delete your cookies and temporary cyber web archives. which will provide your software fewer archives to verify. you additionally can delete undesirable archives, yet be careful you do no longer eliminate any shared archives. you additionally can attempt to defrag your computer. this might make it run greater effectively, and make it greater handy for Norton to hit upon your archives. i found that Norton did decelerate my gadget plenty and that i do no longer use it anymore.
