You should be able to contact the firm unless the attorney you used took all of his files with him. You can also contact the bankruptcy court where the case was filed and give them your social security number and they will be able to tell you when you filed.

If you know the district you filed in, click the link below

If not click this link, to find the district based on the county you lived in when you filed.

Go to the first link, most courts will have a local or toll free number you can dial to get automated information about a case.

Also, once you are finished with the bankruptcy, you will receive a discharge.

The law firm should still have our file and should be able to give you the information. If you have the case number, you can call the bankruptcy court or look it up on the court's website. The state bar should also have the new address for the lawyer at his new firm.

Your bankruptcy starts when you file file the petition and other necessary documents. If you complete all the requirements, then you receive a discharge of your debts when the case is over.

I would try to obtain a copy of your credit report. They should have that information on your file. I know when I went through my divorce I obtained a copy of mine and that date was on their as well as the Bankruptcy itself. Hope that helps...
