We only need to keep it as it always been, I do have Jew family, I'm not, I just think that we cannot generalize, we just need to hang this Rabbi prick by the bowls listening to a nazi song, he deserves the worse, he has no respect. This is now, then what? we all have to wear funny hats, eat kosher food otherwise we can get sued?? The rabbi should have just keep his mouth shout, put the Jew decorations in another space ( the airport is big enough ). Now he says he never wanted the trees down, that is bullcrap, he is now also a liar! I really hope everyone agrees with me, even the Jews because this Rabbi Prick is a real embarrasment : (

He wasn't trying to get the airport to remove trees, nativity scenes or anything. All he wanted was to have them allow him a little area to set up a simple Hanukkah menorah. Why couldn't the airport just give him access?

The pagan erect their trees as fertility symbols and hang balls on them. The Christians put up nativity scenes. And at this time of the year the Jewish community puts up Menorahs. Why favor just the pagans in erecting phallic symbol trees?

The Rabbi did not want the tree taken down, he wanted a menorah to go beside it. The rabbi and the Jewish community said they were appalled by the action the airport took. They fear a backlash of being seen as "Grinches." The Christ mass tree is a symbol of different things to different people. Some see it as nothing more than part of American consumerism, others see it as religious because the star atop symbolizes the star that the 3 magi followed to Jesus. All in all, I think this whole thing was blown out of proportion. I sympathize with the airline though. True, if it is not a private business than they cannot lawfully promote one religious view. The threat of legal action made them aware of this no doubt. If they were to simply put the menorah up, they would be enforcing 2 religious views, which might offend a third religious group causing them to sue. If they were to put both up, then a Christan or Jewish person might become offended that they are together, making a "mockery" of their beliefs and sue. It's easier to have nothing at all. I also feel for the Jewish community to, they are part of the Seattle area yet I'm sure they feel they are not being acknowledged. It's a great big mess!

There was no lawsuit! It's as simple as that.

The airport stalled on decision for months, and the Rabbi's lawyer sent a simple letter to them reassuring them that a menorah display would not be a violation of State/Church separation and wouldn't leave them open to a lawsuit if they added the menorah.

Conservative Christian group the ACLJ sends out THOUSANDS of similar letters to American schools as part of their campaign to force schools to install nativity displays--why aren't you complaining about them?

There was never a question of the Rabbi complaining or objecting to the Trees--all he asked was that a single Menorah display be added. He even offered it at no cost to the airport.

I agree the directors of the airport should be fired, because they would rather remove the Christmas trees than allow a single non-Christian decoration in their airport. They also released a totally dishonest and misleading version of the story to the press on the Friday, knowing that the Rabbi would not be able to offer the facts until the Monday.

The fact that the airport backed down is probably based on a realistic assessment about whether or not they would win the case against the Rabbi. And based on the case law only, they probably would have lost.

Not that I agree that they SHOULD have lost. I'm just saying that they probably would have. The case law ought to be re-examined by the Supremes and if J.P. Stevens doesn't last the next two years, it probably will be.

the actual tale: - Rabbi contacted the airport 2 months in the past, presented to handle the Jewish show himself (i.e. no price to the airport). - He under no circumstances demanded that the timber be bumped off at any time - whilst the airport authority did no longer provide him a reaction the rabbi had his attorney deliver them a criminal short detailing that there replaced into precendence to exhibiting Jewish products as a thank you to spur the authority into action. - The airport authority panicked and in reaction desperate to no longer have ANY trip reflects - The media then misreported the information in this type of way that it made it look that the rabbi replaced into straight away to blame for the removing of the timber. - The rabbi himself has no objection to the alternative of the timber. So, to respond to your question, ought to they have displayed a menorah? nicely, finally, its as much as the airport authority. So, in the event that they stated "no" its their perogative. although, an analogous is going for a "confident" answer. in my view, i do no longer care one way or the different.

You say "I want to feel the Christmas Spirit which reminds me that I will soon will see my loved ones for Christmas" then you want to have Nazis hang someone by his testicles? Gee, your loved ones must REALLY love you to put up with that kind of hatred. And "I don't have a problem with Jews" sure makes them feel better.
But as to the greater issue, I generally agree with you. The airport should not be so frightened of lawsuits and should have left the trees up.

It seems as though the different religions aren't going ot get along.
The airport, rather than face the suit took down the trees. The story is sad and says a mouthful.

I agree and sounds to me like Rabbi should of ignored the Christmas tree and went on about his business.I would not destroy his religion if I happen to see his 8 candles burning ( think but cant spell that word.. Minora? Not sure) but why would anyone destroy and try to take anyones belief and the spirit of Christmas? He had an axe to grind and he took it out when he saw the Tree . NOPE he doesnt have respect. Bottom line.

the way I read it was that the people at the airport had to also put up a menorah to appease the rabbi. Instead they decided to take down the trees and this is being spun to make it seem like another attack on Christmas... watch Bill O'Reilly tonight if you've missed any of the details, I'm sure he'll objectively, of course, fill you in.

OMG the war on xmas!

look, we live in a multicultural society and if a government funded building, in this case an airport, wants to put up religious symbols...fine. they just have to give equal footing to all religions. this however becomes way too complicated because of all the different religions and beliefs. therefore it is easier to do nothing at all.

in this case you shouldn't be too upset at the rabbi, he didn't want the xmas tree taken down, he just wanted them to add a menorah.
