I'm with you! The Twins have a ton of young talent. Things are looking up for the Twins.

It is to early to say who is going to be the best for 2007, but from what has currently been happening im saying:
1. Red Sox - They have young pitchers and if D-Mat comes that will be one more. They will have a good future with all these potential young pitchers. They also have Ramirez and Ortiz which add some great stats to their offense. As long as they can stay consistent and not have many injuries they should stay on top.
2. Yankees - I am not a yankee fan but they are on the top of the list. They have some great pitchers for their rotation. They also have many players on the field who could make the All-Star team and win the MVP.
3. Twins - Great Pitching and some good offense.
4. Tigers - Good players with a good team.

i think with the acquisition of Andy Pettitte that puts the Yankees on top. They have a playoff stud back in the rotation. There offense is still the best in the majors even without sheffield. They proved last year they can score runs without him, why should it be any different. Only weakness they have is the bridge from the starters to Mariano Rivera. If they get some young but experianced arms they will be on there way to number 27. My only concern about the Twins is they are going to be without Liriano. Playoffs showed you need more then just 1 pitcher and right now Twins have only 1 even though he is the best.
My top 5 American league teams are
Yankees
Tigers
Twins
Red Sox
White Sox
Unfortunetly only a maximum of 3 of those teams will get in. The central is going to be stacked too this year so bet on those teams having a dog fight all year.

The Yankees are the best team in the AL, because they have got an all-star at almost every position. You've got Posada, who is awesome at catching runners out, you've got Giambi, who is good at power-hitting, Cano at good defense (silver slugger 2B this year), DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON JETER, and even though ARod has been stalling lately, he'll get back on track with his more homers and his less errors. You've got Melky Cabrera, the rookie who made the Yankees 2006 Play of the Year, Damon who (even though he has an arm of a child) will sacrifice his body every single game to make that one play for the Yankees. Then there is Abreu who has an AWESOME arm and whenever he is up at the plate, he almost always gets a hit.
Second, the Yankees (not just in the AL) but in the whole major leagues, have the most World Series wins in MLB history, 26. That is more than a quarter of last century. You can also see that the Yankees have been the AL East divison leaders for the past consecutive 9 years.
In conclusion, the players on the Yankees, the history of the Yankees, the defense, and the offense of the team clearly proves that the New York Yankees are the best team in the AL.

It is way too soon to tell who will be the best in the AL next season. Look at the Tigers last season. You can't tell me a year ago that anyone thought they would be good. Look at the Red Sox a year ago, everyone would have had them contending with the Yankees for the AL East and making the playoffs, and the Red Sox weren't that good last season.
So many things can happen, some new young pitcher or hitter can come out of nowhere, the injury bug, or abrupt change in lineup.

On paper? The Yankees are looking good (oh God, I hate to admit that!). The Tigers have pitching, but not offense to seriously compete. (Sheffield will help, if he stays healthy).
Boston is....well....Boston. The Twins always manage to win games, even without Liriano.
1)Yankees
2) Tigers
3) Twins
4) Boston
5) California Angels (I refuse to call them the la angels of (anihiem)
