Excuse me, do you know what a poll tax is???? It was a tax that was imposed on people when they voted. The implied purpose was to prevent poor (Black) people from voting and thus continuing a pattern of discrimination and segregation.

What are you advocating for, a tax on anyone 18 and up? for what? Why? It would be horribly regressive, meaning that it would hit poor people hardest. It wouldn't be tied to income, consumption, property, where you can actually measure what the tax is?

Your proposal makes no economic, policy, or political sense.

Although I could almost agree with you, that we should pay towards a part of democracy. But there are two reasons why it shouldn't.

1) Taxpayer's already PAY for elections, and we get broken computer screens, hanging chads and etc already. Throwing more money at it will only pad the CEO's wallets of Diebolt.

2) The argument against any poll tax is discrimination. And it may not have effected you or me directly right now, it is still hurting many African American and Latino communities. Can be compared to requiring picture ID in order to vote, discriminates people who do not have access to those ID's.

The Community Charge was successfully labelled a poll tax and sought to move away from the primitive income tax that is the current system - in many ways it was fairer but this connection with the voting system was unconstitutional. It also sought to use Scotland as a guinea pig which led to a huge backlash which led to the Scottish Parliament. This in turn was used to implement a Smoking ban that ... er used Scotland as a guinea pig.

The current system is probably the only workable local tax - because it is difficult to avoid - however it has been loaded up with taxes because of the current government's stealth tax agenda - the Community Charge shouldn't be resurrected but the abuse of the current system by Highway Robber Councils should be tackled.

if fact learn that when the loopholes are used, organizations in this us of a pay 0 to lower than 4% in taxes. Many even after paying no earnings any respect, get money decrease back from the authorities. I make $40 2,2 hundred in line with 365 days and my adjusted gross income has me paying 13%. So why am I paying more advantageous than extremely wealthy organizations? and why are my tax money giving them money they by no skill put in? even as my mastercard debt were given out of control, I re-evaluated my spending habit, reduce decrease back on a lot of issues. That stopped the money hemorrhaging, yet that did not help me get my debt paid off. I had to get section time pastime on the weekends (you comprehend sales) to commence paying down my debt. reducing expenditures on my own did not artwork, and infrequently does. reduce waste, reduce protection force spending and raise taxes on the better 2% persons and close loopholes on organizations. Then we ought to have a chance.

On the one hand yes, because when it was first introduced I was then living in the Borough of Wandsworth and we paid no Poll Tax at all.

On the other hand I am very aware of what happened during the Poll Tax riots.

You've got to understand the real power behind the riots a lot of which was driven by the Dukes of Westminster, Norfolk and Devonshire. Think about this.

His Grace the Duke of Westminster was paying the Poll Tax on behalf of his many working class tenants.

It didn't work because it wasn't fair. We always paid rates per. household before. All working people do contribute to the financial framework of society first by tax deducted from their pay, secondly we're taxed VAT if we spend any remaining money and our saved money is counted as unearned income and the taxman hangs around waiting for us to die, so that he can grab it before we can leave it to our family, in the form of inheritance tax.

I have no opinion whether or not the poll tax SHOULD be brought back.

I do have an opinion about whether or not the Supreme Court did it's job right in Harper v. Virginia Brd of Elec. ......... and they clearly did not.

By the time the Harper decision was handed down, there were only 4 or 5 states left which still had a poll tax as a qualification for voting in state elections. The 24th Amendment bans poll taxes as a qualification for voting in federal elections.

I doubt that there is much support for the idea of re-creating poll taxes. So yes, you are probably almost completely alone.

More than likely.

Anyone in work already contributes through taxation. Those out of work couldn't pay a poll tax anyway.
