I got bad news for you, I highly doubt it is the Air conditioner, but possibly be your pistons in your engine. They say knocking noises are due to pitons moving and possibly hitting your block of the enging with all that oil you poured in. 12 quarts is a lot of oil for an engine. Most vehicals only need a least 4 to 5 liters of oil and type of oil too don't forget. I certainly hope it is not your engine or it going to cost you a lot of money to pull the engine apart to repair it. Good Luck finding the problem.

12 qts. of oil should keep it well lubed but it wont do your seals any good. to much internal pressure for sure. a pully will make a squeel or whine but not a knock. and an a/c unit has a definate grinding sound when the compressor clutch gives up. without hearing it myself i would say that i doubt that either of these are your problem. have you concidered rod bearings or if the noise is more of a tapping noise than a knock, you might consider having your lifters adjusted. either way is a mess and not for those without automotive savey. sorry to hear of your misfortune because these days there is no easy or inexpensive fix.

That much oil would reach the crankshaft which would turn it into foam and do some serious bearing damage. You can take the belt off and run it for a few seconds to make sure it's not some accessory, but the engine has probably gone to live with Jesus.

It was the 12 quarts of oil...... It raised your oil pressure too much. Just be careful that you didn't blow any seals running it with that much oil in it.. Just get your oil level back to the right level and wait for all the smoke to come out your tail pipe.
Then see if you hear the knocking.

I have to agree with whatsthis, drain oil to proper level. recheck engine noise, if noise still there, remove belt and start car and listen for noise. if noise gone, pulley problem!!!
