That was the one with Roger Daltry as Franz Liszt if I remember correctly. Ken Russell's answer to Tommy. I can't say that I really liked it. But it was definitely a trip; the kind of trip that only Ken Russell could take you on. Never been a big fan of Mr. Russell, but did enjoy Altered States and also Lair of the White Worm. The idea of Classic composer as rock star predated Amadeus and the one about Chopin with Hugh Grant- I forget the name - so you gotta give it points for originality. But somehow, at least for me, it didn't all hold together.

If you like Ken Russell films (which I do) you'll like it.

It's like many of his movies - over the top and extravagant and vaguely incoherent - a real study in excess.

Whether it's classical biographies (Liszt - Tchaikovsky - Najinsky) or churches and nunneries (The Devils) or rock operas (Tommy) or 1920's musicals (The Boyfriend) or horror (Lair of the White Worm), he never fails to entertain me.

Why do you look so angry in your avatar? You should smile, you're so handsome when you smile. Lisztomania was wierd. I liked it, but in small doses.
