By far Mercury has the widest temperature extremes of all of the planets in our Solar System. Night is a cold -292 degrees F, while midday temperatures reach +806 degrees F in the hottest regions.

Of all the planets, Mars has the potential to harbor life, or to have harbored life at some time in the past. Its 77 degree daytime temperature is reasonable to project as being consistent with the requirements of life forms as we understand them. However, its night temps are truly chilling and it seems to lack a suitable atmosphere for life at this time. Water may have been prevalent on Mars at some time in the past, but is apparently not visable now.

The ideal planet you seek may reside within one of the nearby solar systems. Many people are looking for it.
