It really is doing my head in. What kind of programs should I use? Ones that are freeware please. Thank you.

FIRST, I would note that MOST dvd players (other than computers) will NOT play MPG and/or AVI from a DVD as these are "file mode" files.

You should first convert to the DVD format if you want to play them, however you can store them in their original format as "data" to transfer to another machine.

You might try looking for converters and/or video editors on line. Since I use a commercial program, I am unfamiliar with the free programs; other than to know that there are some.

Hi. I use a program called "Copy2DVD SE". I use a freeware version. Not an endorsement, just what I use. (I use purchased software for DVD backups.)
