The obesity problem is really getting out of hand. Some kids are obese because they overeat and get no physical activity. Some kids are obese because of emotional, physical, and or sexual abuse (A friend of mine was sexually abused and she comforted herself with food). With some kids it can be a mixture of things. I was emotionally abused by my parents...more by my mom than my dad, and then I did not get very much physical activity. I think a lot of it was because of depression brought on by the emotional abuse. I recently started taking Zoloft and have become much more active because the depression is lifting and I want to do more than just sit around the house.

There are many countries who do not over-diet or over-eat. They simply don't have food.

If you mean in developed countries. I would say over-eating.

Both are common, though. Many societies seem to take things to extremes. You are either obese or anorexic. You can either be fat or skinny. You cannot be in between. It's not "normal" to be a normal weight any more. It's normal to either be overweight or underweight. It seems people do this with everything--it's sickening!
