They didn't serve. According to some of the answers I have seen on YA, I can assume they have no right to be in charge of the military then. Maybe they should send their children to war now, since they are both going to run for president!

The only point re military records is this:
(1) Clinton was completely battered by the GOP for "draft dodging." But of course, GW was the ultimate dodger and he was still patriotic, and Kerry was a war hero, and all the GOP could do was find a group of people to lie about one Vietnam campaign (the so-called "swift boat veterans") to smear that.
McCain is a war hero; that's great. Kerry was a war hero; that's great. But that's not a predicate for being a good military leader.
(2) All of these neo-cons put soliders in harms way, and are extremely hawkish, but have no military experience. Then they ignore requests from generals for sufficient numbers of troops, ignore ideas from diplomats on handling international incidents, and ignore intelligence reports when it doesn't suit political agendas. If they were General Eisenhower, then maybe that's different. But when they're people who have $$ interest in the military-industrial complex, we have a reason to be skeptical.
(3) All these GOP people voting for war, but very few have family involved in the military. Rather, it's people from lower socioeconomic classes, minorities, who need money for college or otherwise can't find appropriate jobs, who enlist. That's Charles Rangel's point. If the neo-cons were sending their sons and daughters off to fight, or had the experience themselves, then maybe they'd think twice before blindly following rhetoric and invading a country, yes?

Maybe it is because Dems did not get almost 3000 soldiers killed and tens of thousands wounded. That was all Republicans baby. President House and senate all Reps. Mike Royko had a term for people who want to send soldiers into war for any reason but when they had the chance to serve they wimped out (Like Bush and Cheney) He called them War Wimps.

Since both Hillary and Obama were never eligible for the draft like Dubya was, neither served. Bush served from a bar stool. And just what did happen to the missing files on Bush?

None, but correct me if I'm wrong but one of the 2 Republicans your referring to did EVER thing he could to avoid service but has been happy to send a LOT of young people to die.

The other joined a National guard unit that never was called up and would only have been if the Ruskies were on Austins door step.

Hillary Clinton served in the pissed off: cursing the seven day waiting period for a handgun wives brigade:
NOW WE KNOW WHY BILL PASSED THE SEVEN DAY WAITING PERIOD FOR A HANDGUN:

Barack Obama didn't serve. He is a rich kid. Rich kids don't fight wars, they just start them. It is the poor kids that have to fight them.

The difference is that they never claimed to have served. GWB lied, I mean said that he fulfilled his obligation to the country.

GWB in a flight suit is a slap in the face to those of us that have served.

It's a crying shame that "swift boat" is a verb. Another testament to the vile politics of destruction. They did it to one of their own, John McCain, so what makes you conservatives so convinced that these guys do the right thing?
