You provide your own answer. What is wrong with keeping quiet is that you are getting picked on and it sometimes gets you down. I dont want to invite trouble onto you, but I would say that if you let people think they can bully you, they will keep on doing it.
You need to let people know what is going on, like telling the teachers , so they are aware. My daughter stands right up and tells people to back off and leave her alone. I am amazed that she is so brave.

I was very quiet and to myself in school. I was picked on because of that. Maybe because people did not understand me?

I did 'blow up' on someone out of anger and frustration. That was not a great idea in the end. Even though beat the crap out of that person, it did not make me feel any better. So I would not advise that.

But over time, life changes. I went to a 20 year reunion and all of those who picked on me became losers and did nothing with their lives. As for me, I have become sucessful, own my own company, and because of my business choice, I cannot keep my mouth shut doing seminars and public speaking!

:)

There's nothing wrong with it. Some people just don't want to start something while others are naturally reserved. But you shouldn't let others take advantage of you either. Speak up for yourself. Stand up for your rights and dignity. If not, the same actions will just keep reoccurring. Once people think that they can poke fun at you, they will just keep doing it.

theres nothing wrong with being quiet in school! :)! I'd much rather be known as quiet than loud and rude. But if they are bothering you though, speak up.

Tell them to dust off or ignore them You are well on your way to maturity. Little kids will never bother you again. They will continue to be rude for life and you can tell them, later, "No Salt on Those Fries, Please."
