Are there any programs or internet sites that are FREE or not too expensive that can help me get a higher WPM?

The average workplace typist reaches about 50 to 60 words per minute. The average web surfer comes in at around 30 words per minute, at a peak. So 40 WPM would be around average for a normal person. Maybe a little above average.

40 WPM is average & generally the minimum requirement for most office work. As far as programs....well I type 96 WPM & that's mainly b/c I spend a lot of time in chat rooms ;-) (In other words, sorry don't know any programs that teach typing, just know that practice makes perfect!)

40 WPM is considered by many to be the MINIMUM requirement for typing intensive jobs. There ae a lot of sites out there that offer typing tutors and what-not. You can also buy relatively cheap ones at almost any store that offers computer software. I've included one link below to get you started.

i am averaging 30-35.
I went to several different websites to do the WPM Tests.
My biggest reason for being so slow is because i have a hard time spelling my words.
So i get stuck on the and end up retyping what it says, and i am a pretty slow reader.
I also "hen-peck" so i lose track of my fingers and end up typing the wrong letter at times.

Anyways, there are variables that effect your typing speed, and i mess up on all of em XD.
Just keep it in mind if you want to improve on it when looking for a job that requires heavily on you being accurate and speedy.

-Bless ya!

Let me tell you, I learned typing when I was ten and now I average at about 41 wpm. But to learn, I freaking swear by Mavis Beacon. It really helps you, and if you keep at it, you will get super good!

So if I wanted to be an assistant to make money through college, my 75 wpm would be good?

I just learned how to type without looking at the keyboard and usually i type around 35-40 words per minute give or take. I know i need a lot of practice though because i make so many mistakes while typing that i get mad at myself like!
