I'll admit that I don't believe in god, but I'm not going to knock the next person who does. My family consists of many pastors and preachers and I respect what they believe. oh and yes I do have a "few" books on the subject even a few family built churches. Still I don't see why god is such a big deal, even to those who don't believe in god (yes it's ironic but it's just an observation) seem to get hostile very quickly when someone starts preaching/spreading the word. It's not just nonbelievers either though I know that some people try to push their religion on other people. I'll just say that if you believe then you believe and if you don't then you don't, so just leave it at that.

I think that's a really interesting question. If you believe in God, the person you're believing in is the Creator of our World, the Lover of humanity. It's hard to tell someone why God is important to a lot of people. Maybe it's because all people are lost, and evil. God is someone to turn to, to let us know we are loved. I don't know where you are on God, or religion. All I know is that I trust that God takes care of me everyday, and that He made me who I am. This might seem like a load of crap to you....but it's why God is such a big deal. (If you're at all interested, you might even want to pick up a few books on the subject.)

Wow, that is a very vast and open ended question, there are so many reasons why God is such a big deal, but alas I am not a follower, I am a heretic, sinner, agnostic. God can be so many different things for different people, some use iit as scapegoats for there problems, some really belive. God is a big deal because we want it to be, the more you ask the bigger deal it is. I am starting to ramble and rant and am probably going to get you confused no offense, but I will leave you with this... God is a greater power of "God" that people can belive in, something we cannot touch, or even dream of becomeing, he created us, he nurtiured us and hid a whole bunch of pornos behind a tree and got pissed when Adam and Eve found them... jk. He apperently is our savior and that is why he is a big deal, something we can repent our sins on and never do wrong with him, he is all forgiving. I hope that helped have fun on your quest to find the meaning of life lol.

It's one of those endless debates with no possibility of any sort of compromise. No person on any side of the argument actually knows how to communicate there point in the same manner as the other. Believers think of it as an all encompassing light, there is only light and no shadow so most can't see it because it's to obviouse or nothing to create actual contrast when it comes to god things. Non-believers don't see anything. Thats pretty much what it boils down to in the argument. I don't see it or it's everywhere so you sort of don't see it even though it's everywhere. I always feel religions skewed the "good" word and it's really easy to see why so many aren't religous. I do not want to push any faith on you, but are you up to trying a childish challenge. You can think of it as a prayer or a self analysation process. Just close your eyes, think or whisper thoughts about if there is a god and your listening to me... then add what you will after that. Open, honest, clean hearted, respectful, if it works things will pop in your head and you should then go over or explain things on why you feel about that or what ever you choose to talk about. If you do this and it works what would you think it is? It should be quick and silent, just certain things will pop in your head and talk it over as if your talking to a person you respect and want opinions from. It may be childish to you, but give it at least one try and see what you dream about or how you feel. As of why a big deal, people get overly emotional and excited when it comes to things like this. If you cared alot about something in a way your life revolves around it and someone trash talks it or in a way disrespects it wouldn't you get upset or emotional? Misscomunications of understanding go both ways on all sides.

I am not really a follower to any religion, but I believe in the existence of God. Some philosophers have even stated it isn't possible to know *who* or *what*, but doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Personally, I like to try apply the "half full" glass thingy (i rather believe something greater exists, than to negate it :)). Well, it doesn't hurt to open myself to the idea there might be something more than I can understand.
Also, depends on the definition you give to it. He can be omnipotent, omnibenevolent, omniscient, the creator, the sustainer, free, eternal, personal, or all of them at once. Nature(i.e. Spinoza) has also been considered as such.

I find it important/necessary to ponder about who or if this god exists. Briefly explaining, because you may find it that it makes a greater deal about everyday event than you may have thought. For example, what IF god is an ultimate extension of matter, within a wrapped "unity" (i.e. leibniz monads).

What is the relationship with us? Are we ultimately, each one of us "gods"? What can we do as such? If we can give a more spiritual sense to metaphysical implications, we may find that maybe doing bad things we do may eventually end up worsening for ourselves, or such a matter of examples. Maybe even god is the property that makes up for the entanglement phenomena in quantum particles... or how about modeling the dimensions.

As more knowledge you find in this God, the better answers you may find ;)

I'm not really sure but I belive that to some people he is their hope for a better future and their security net. For others he is their total lifeline. For the lonely he is their companion that never lets them down. For the sick he is their hope for a cure; I guess the list could go on and on depending on each individual but real or not the entity of God is a force to be reckoned with if that makes any sense. I guess what I am trying to say that even if he isn't real the thought of his presence can cause people to do some crazy things and their faith in Him helps them through troubling times.

I believe that there is a God and that Jesus was real but I am on the fence past that. I believe parts of the Bible but am a little sketchy about all of it because of the fact that it has been written and translated by many men across the ages.

Folks need something to believe in.

If we believe there is a "God" that is looking down and watching after us, then some of the crap we have to deal with doesn't seem so terrible.

Unscientific, irrational, and possibly even immature, but human.

Personally i don't think god is such a big deal. That millions of deluded people choose to worship a figment of their collective imagination is really quite humourous.

i think god is just a way for people not to lose hope. we all need to believe there's something bigger out there than just life, bcuz our lives are so small and feel so insignificant sometimes. without the belief that there is something after death, why would we even bother doing anything? we'd either all be hopeless and suicidal, or all be hedonists. and besides, without some greater justice, we'd all be criminals. law isnt wut prevents crime, religion is *even though quite often it is also the cause of conflict*
.
if law was the only thing to stop people from commiting crimes, we'd all be guilty of at least one large crime. belief in God (or some higher power) instills morals and discipline.

I personally have no idea, and it bothers me sometimes when people question their ideas based on what god would think. You should question your ideas and decisions based on the outcome and what YOU think. In my opinion, the idea of god was created so people would think twice about being unjust, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

listen to this! i would rather live my life believing there is a God and die to find out that there is no God. but i would never try to live my life believing there is no God and die to find out that there is one. God wantes to be believed, trusted, worshipped, and be recognozed as the God he is and if you live your life not doing so, your eternity will not be a very comforting one.

GOD LOVES YOU! HE THINKS ABOUT YOU EVERY DAY. HE TRIES HIS BEST TO SHOW HIMSELF TO YOU. HE DOESNT CARE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT HIM, HE LOVES YOU. HE LOVES YOU TO DEATH. HAVENT YOU HEARD OF THE CROSS HE DIES UPON FOR YOU?
