I drive about 100 miles during the week and 300-600 miles on the weekends.... My car has an oil leak... I have to put in about 2 quarts every 2-3 weeks... Any ideas on how to baby the car? I make sure to drive pretty much as the car can handle not pushing it.. and I am very careful with stop-n-go traffic... I am easy on the brakes( but I am sure they need to be changed about now).... Again... Just looking for AT HOME remedies in between the trips to the Mechanic... or to prevent the trips to the mechanic.... ( Good thing I live in Mechanicvile NY! : )

You do not seem to need advice on keeping the car going, just keep doing what you are doing, check the fluids daily use a good quality oil, make sure it's got coolant in it,don't drive the crap out of it,I think your doing great,it sounds like it get's taken care of very well.

First, ALWAYS insure there is oil in the crankcase before starting. Don't let it get below the add oil line (bottom of the two on the dip stick. If you live in a cold climate, you might want to warm the engine up at idle a little before starting to drive it. Otherwise, you pretty much have it covered. The only other thing is the timing belt for the valve train. If it goes, $$ it's game, set, match $$ Good luck

See if you can fix that oil leak. With any luck its just a pan or a hose, both of which are relatively cheap. You're literally hemorraging money out your oil system.

After that, throw a bottle of fuel additive (Chevron's always worked well for me) in with your next fill up. It will clean your fuel system and get your car prepared for the winter gasoline. After that, just keep your fluids full, your tire pressure correct and don't drive like so many of the morons you see on the road today.

Your car should, statistically, continue to operate in an acceptable manner till about 225,000 miles. Your method of care is very good, giving you a very good chance of at least attaining the 225K benchmark... (follow Takfams advice) after that, your little Honda WILL become a little breakdown nightmare, and try it's best to bankrupt you. They (the car spirits) study this stuff in the car ever life...
Beware...
