if I was the "recipient", I would most appreciate either one of the following:
$10 worth of lottery scratch off tickets
a $10 gift card (Walmart, Target, Blockbuster..etc)

Make it! Buy a frame, and using nice paper, print out a poem or quotation that the person will like. You can dress it up with scrap booking stuff from the dollar store. The end product can look way better than a ten dollar gift should.

candles, candy, fun socks, a magazine subscrption, a wallet, coin purse, jumper cables (hey, you don't want to be stuck somewhere without these) a good flashlight, a pretty holiday blanket, scarf, gloves, hat, baseball cap, flavored coffee or cappucino, cookies from the bakery, gift cards to their favorite store, movie passes, perfume, body washes or shower gel, pretty picture frame,

Well for a guy it would be maybe a wallet, some colonge, or a nice pair of gloves. For a woman a nice necklace, scented candles, gloves, some make up or a nice necklace or bracelet.
