right click on the task bar and make sure to unlock the task bar, then left click on the bar and drag it to the bottom. Thats it! if you keep the taskbar locked you can't move it ;)

Hello,
You should be able to "Undock" the XP task bar including the start button. Using your mouse you should be able to grab the entire taskbar and move it back to its orginal location or to a new location.
**If the task bar WONT move, take your mouse pointer & click on any blank area of the task bar and right click with mouse (right button), from the menu that appears you should see an option that says "unlock the task bar" select this option, then you should be able to move it, as above.

I resolved this problem by closing down the computer, when I switched it back on again the start button and task bar was back in place. It's worth trying if all else fails.
Good luck, Cassandra

If you right click on the task bar and then click "Lock the Taskbar" it should revert to its default position.
