I live in an apartment in NJ after losing everything last year. I have nothing and my husband just lost his job due to the economy. His unemployment runs out mid March and I know that my salary will just cover the rent and nothing else. Is there a way I can get rental assistance? Has anyone else been in this situation and know how to get through it without having to move or sacrifice anything more? Serious answers only please, as I really am scared that I am going to be homeless. Thank you.

My husband did inquire locally for assistance and they told him it would be at least a 2 yr wait. What do you do in the meantime?

Am very sorry to hear what you and your husband are going through, I am also having a very hard month and am in the same situation, what might get you by for at least a month before you apply for any programs, I am not sure if this is the case in all states but it be worth a try in your state until you sign up for some sort of rental assitance, go to your local church and explain to them your situation, tell them that you need rental assistance, also here in my area the church pays up to $1,000 for rental assistance each year, also if you do go to a church have your lease/rental agreement with you.

you can apply for sec 8 , but I must warn you it is very hard to get and you could be on a waiting list for years it is really unfair for people in your situation because so many people choose to abuse this assistance program. I know people who don't just use it to get on their feet they think it is a way of life and won't even strive for better paying jobs in fear of losing this and also people who keep having kids so they can qualify for larger residences
