I really need to cover my grays (I am graying at the age of 35) but don't want to harm my baby in any way. I have heard mixed reviews, my colorist says no problem just not a perm. I have read it can seep into my roots. Does anyone know? thanks.

although many people think that dying ones hair during pregnacy is harmless, you still pose the risk of absorbing some of the chemicals into your blood through your skin, why chance it?
avoiding the use of hair dye was actually on the list of DON'T's that my doctor gave me when i got pregnant
girl, i have grays too (i am also 35) and i can live with it until these babies are born, lol better safe than sorry

this is a really if-y question everyone has there own answers.. there really isn't a pro ff of right or wrong it just depends on each doctor... my doctor swears up and down not to pump gas... its one of those controversial subjects about pregnancy. I'd say wait till your second trimester the baby is stronger and most fetal organs are done forming plus the risk of miscarriage is reduce alot. i died my hair at 14 weeks and again at 25 and i haven't had any problems. below i put a few site that talk about hair dying all in which says there is no proff either way rathers its bad or not hope it helps =)

My doctor said that if you can handle the strong odor it's alright, however, popular opinion is, wait til after your first trimester.

My friend says that coloring or perming your hair is okay, but that the color or the perm may not take... meaning: will not turn out right.

Good Luck!!!

Make sure the hair stylist knows you do not want any near the roots or scalp of your head. Hair dye can be absorbed into the bloodstream through your scalp, but not through the hair itself. I would personally wait until the first trimester was over, 3 weeks isn't overly long to wait. Congratulations.

there is not any shown link between hair dye and being pregnant issues. yet, my physician advised me to attend until the 2d trimester to boot. except you're utilising all organic dye i might wait til the 13-14 week mark. Congrats on toddler!!!

Well just to make sure I'd wait until you have the baby. I don't think that dying you hair would hurt but I didn't dye my hair or any thing like that while I was pregnant only because I didn't see any reason to color my hair.

Go with a color that is a stain rather than a dye. Check out what Robert Craig has--it's more gentle on your hair too. I use the stuff and really like it.

Question

Can I still dye my hair or get a permanent while I'm pregnant? - Shanna J
Answer

I haven't seen any research that says hair dye or permanent solutions cause teratogenic effects. However, I recommend waiting until after the first trimester. If you do choose to color your hair or get a permanent, always use these products in well-ventilated areas and try to keep the product from getting on your scalp or skin.

You should not use any hair color or chemical that will soak into your scalp. (so highlights are fine for example) You might try a color-depositing shampoo and conditioner. They are safer and can be purchased at a beauty salon or supply store.
