Use the "N" word all the time. The coloreds love that.

From someone who has dated in the south where I'm assuming you live, talk with him just as you would anybody else (avoid words that you may use like "colored") if he does get offended by something just apologize, as most people are understanding that we weren't born understanding these sort of issues.

Finally, you're a parent, there's a +90% chance you wouldn't be able to be "hip" (a problem already) with your daughter's boyfriend. Just try to get to know him, and how he views life and he will appreciate that much more than trying to be like him.

I'm not sure how old you are, but the term "colored" has developed a negative connotation since the mid-20th century. Today, more acceptable terms are "black" or "African-American." Also, I would suggest not calling attention to his race. Just view him as another human being and be yourself. I don't think it will matter much to him if you're hip; most guys try to impress their girlfriends' dads, so he'll be paying more attention to his own words (so that he can make a good impression) than yours. You should do fine if you keep these things in mind.

...Are you joking? Oh no, I fear that you're actually serious.

Rule #1: Don't call him colored. "Colored" isn't a race.

Don't try to change the way that you speak or anything, no one cares about how "hip" you make yourself seem. In fact, that can be seen as mockery and thus offensive. Just be yourself and be polite, but do NOT be fake.

And please don't do anything to make him uncomfortable. Just by reading your question I feel that you're quite capable of saying something stupid. You don't have to act in any special way with him, he's just a normal guy like anyone else.

Talk to your daughter about it, she would probably advise you the same things that I've mentioned.

Are you serious? I think this must be a joke. First off we don't call them "coloreds" any more. Just talk to him like you should, like any other person...I seriously hope this was a joke!!

just be yourself. That is who you like. That is who your daughter likes. Just relax. If you try to act colored, you are acting racist, like him being colored is something unusal or needing special treatment. Just treat him like any other guy, cuase he is
