I planted allium bulbs (globemaster) in containers in Oct but even after 2 months, I don't see any growth in there. What could be the problem. I haven't put the pots out in the backyard as squirrels dig them up. How often do they need water???sun???

I live in CA. Should I keep my pots outside, right now I've placed them by window inside. Squirrels are a problem outside and moreover, it is raining a lot these days, and not sure if that much water is good for the bulbs or not.

What part of CA? Do you get freezing temps there? If you do, it's too soon for alliums to be coming up. They do not begin to grow until the soil temp remains above a certain point for a few weeks.

If you live in S CA and don't get freezing temps, I would dig one up and examine it. If it's still hard and not mushy they're OK. Put it back in the ground and wait for nature to prevail.

Where do you live?Im not sure allium bulbs can be forced to open most of the time you plant them and they have to sleep for a few months I plant mine any where between september thru December and I usually dont see any thing until June! By forced it means generally there is a period of time the bulb needs before it will start growning.
