Ok heres the deal, up until about 5 months ago I had 1 dogHhad him for 6 years) One Cat (had him for 4 years). That was fine and plenty because I live in a 14x70 trailer home. Than my grandma died and my grandpa was put into a nursing home so I aquired their shitzu. Which was ok. Than 2 weeks ago someone dropped off a huge orange cat and my kids found it and brought it in and he is a absolute sweetheart. My problem is I HAVE NO ROOM! However I cannot bring myself to get rid of or destroy any of these animals. The cats would be put to sleep at a shelter and the dogs are the only things I have to take up my time when everyone is gone all day. I just dont know what to do. And my husband wants to get rid of the cat and the shitzu. What would you do?

That is four if i can count... Four is not a lot. Four is the number of our cats alone. Then add that to the dog, three birds, two sugar gliders and frog, that's more than I can cound on both hands. Person, you're good. You can start complaining when you break ten. Lol

find a family member or close friend that you can trust to keep the pet, and see if they can take it for a few months while you figure out what to do. Right now we have 2 golden retrievers and 5 cats outside, and a mom jack russell and 3 puppies inside, so i know how you feel. I live in a relatively large house, but still, its a lot to care for. Good luck with it, and do your best to not send them to the humane society! maybe ask a friend if they want to give their kids a dog or cat for xmas! thats what we are doing for my 5 year old cousin with one of the pups!

You're right about the cats, you should keep them if it is possible. They also need less room and less me time then dogs. They're just easier over all.

Is there anyone else in the family who could take the Shitzu for you? Since she was your grandmothers you likely feel kind of obligated to keep her but if you don't have the room there's no reason to, it isn't really fair for you to be the one taking care of her, is it?

Put an ad in the local paper and ask who wants a free cat or dog. Explain top anyone who calls the situation. Since it is near the holidays I am sure someone will respond. Good Luck.

Being an animal lover myself I feel for you. I wouldnt want to give up my pets either. But if you really can't keep them their are no kill shelters around. Maybe you could even find homes for them yourself. Then you would know they were going to good homes. Then again if they stay around long enough your husband might become attached too. After all your probably the one that takes care of them. They are part of the family. Keep talking to your husband about how much you love them. Good Luck I hope you keep them all.

i would talk to my friends and see if they know anyone that wants a dog or a cat. i would NOT take them to the shelter. i would feel to bad doing that. i would put up posters or an ad on petfinder.com to try to get them adopted.

i would talk to my husband and try to explain that the animals have a special place in your heart. convince him to let them stay. either that or ask a friend if they would like one. at least you know the animals arent getting abused or uthinaized [sp?]
