It would be MUCH cheaper, faster and more reliable if you simply buy a new internal hard drive and put it in, and install your OS onto it.

You would not want to use an external hard drive as your main hard drive due to performance issues. USB and Firewire do not compare in performance to internal IDE and SATA.

If you wanted to use an external hard drive for storage, then go ahead. I just wouldn't run any programs, games or Windows from an external drive. You will see the difference.

If you want everything to perform fast, then I would recommend installing a second internal hard drive. Most cases have room.

You can ! How about if you install internal hard drive- if you like to use external you will have to configure your system for using the external hard drive.
