I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but I've always heard that it is actually less expensive to incarcerate a person for life rather than using the death penalty. The reason being, is that before we take someone's live in the name of justice, we allow them lots of appeals which amount to millions of dollars in legal expenses.
IF they are guilty of such an atrocious crime, I'd just assume they rotted in prison. A quick death seems much less painful than years wallowing in jail. Why not let time see if they can find a way to pay back society somehow.

Lethal Injection Consists Of:

Sodium Thiopental (lethal dose - sedates person)

Pancuronium Bromide (muscle relaxant-collapses diaphragm and lungs)

Potassium Chloride (stops heart beat)

The offender is usually pronounced dead approximately 7 minutes after the lethal injection begins.

Cost per execution for drugs used : $86.08

Cost per Day per Offender to keep in jail:

$61.58 (based on FY2002)

History

Death row was located in the East Building of the Huntsville Unit from 1928 to 1952. From 1952 until 1965, the electric chair was located in a building by the East Wall of the Huntsville Unit.
So for an extra 25 dollars we can use capatial punishment and save thousands of dollars a year!

I trust the answer above, that is more advantageous expensive to grant the demise penalty and the prisoner doesn't truly get punished as undesirable. a minimum of preserving them in penal complicated can make their punishment lengthy and painful. they could also artwork off their debt to society. If execution isn't any more advantageous expensive, then it ought to come out to about a similar.

I agree with the answer above, it is more expensive to give the death penalty and the prisoner doesn't really get punished as bad. At least keeping them in jail can make their punishment long and painful. They can also work off their debt to society. If execution isn't more expensive, then it would come out to about the same.
