I want something really special and maybe even not store bought. please help i'm really really bad at this!

How about a ticket to a special event that he would enjoy? It could be a sports event, a play, a concert, a restaurant gift certificate, a museum, a game room, or an event. If you want to dress it up a bit, bake something and stick the certificate or ticket into a plastic cover and pop it in the middle of the cookies or on top of the cake or pie. If you don't cook, get a bough of pine or fir, tie it with a pretty ribbon, and put the certificate on the ribbon. Maybe you can think of other ideas. I hope these can get you going on some.
