We went through Hurricane Katrina. We still have spray paint on the front bricks from the hurricane. It is time to remove this. The house is finished. How can I get it off?

In situations like this, I would suggest making a series of experiments starting from the least invasive or damaging to the brick.

But first you need to find out what type of paint it is. Oil or Latex. Your local paint store should sell a little testing pack for 99 cents.

If it's latex, start with soap, water, and a sponge.

If it's oil, start with varsol and a rag.

If those suggestions don't work, try acetone. If that doesn't work. Ugh...try paint remover. Or, and this is what I would do, use a very light grit sandpaper and GENTLY rub the paint off. Essentially you will be rubbing off a micro layer brick.

Solutions comprise scraping heavy deposits of paint off the brick, cord brushing the leisure of the cast paint off the brick, after which a solvent (like Goof Off Cleaner) for eliminating residue from the brick. The target is to take away the cast residue earlier to the solvent program, since the solvent too can make the stain higher if there may be nonetheless forged paint left at the brick. The final object is to vigor wash the brick with prime stress (2000-2500 psi) with a concrete flooring purifier fabric combined with sizzling water by way of the stress washing machine. Sometimes the purifier may also be bought at vehicle constituents deliver shops.

Don't use a metal brush--it will leave a mark on the bricks. A bristle brush with warm soapy water may do the trick. Or there is a product called Goof-Off that will probably help. A pressure washer could also be used, but that would probably eat away a little bit of the surface.
