They're anagrams of country names? Spain, Italy and China--I can't get Levee though.

Is it that they all have long vowel sounds?
Or perhaps they're all anagrams of places?
Levee: Veele (a town in The Netherlands)
Pains: Spain
Laity: Italy
Chain: China
