I live in an area primarily domininated by dominicans, and i've noticed that many dominican men are openly racist against everyone else--about 20%-40% depending whom i'm with at the time. i'm an asian american and i can't begin to tell you all the $hit i go through daily with many of these people. once i got shot at with bb-guns by 2 teenagers, i get racist stares and slurs from 20% of random dominicans at any time if i'm with a white female friend (about 3-4 times a day in a couple of HOURS!). every hispanic person i've talked to about this tell me that "dominicans love white women" and get jealous very easily. and every non-dominican hispanics tell me that they f*cking hate dominicans b/c they give hispanics a bad name.

I'd like to learn how to cope with dominicans. and at this time i'd point out that not every dominican is openly racist. but a lot of them are. and if it's just in their thoughts i'm ok with that. but 20% of the time they show it. what do you think?

j-chris, while i agree with you that a group of people will treat those not belonging to that group as outsiders, there're many differences in the way that people treat based on which culture they're from.

some cultures are offensive, and some are defensive. i am dealing with an aggressive race, known stereotypically to be loud and violent by other non-dominican hispanics. for example, i'd be a lot happier living in an all jewish neighborhood, white neighborhood and indian neighborhood. only if i can afford that, that is. such is the curse of lower middle class americans.

I can't stand Dominicans because a majority of them think they are white especially in NY.
I have met a few Dominicans that will admit they are black but that's few and far in between. Futhermore even they will tell you that most Dominicans are Racist especially against black Americans .

Everyone hates Dominicans... They give EVERYONE a bad name. Did you know that the majority of Dominicans are afro latino, but hate other people of african descent? Dominicans are famous and best known for their self hatred. Like their neighbors, the Haitians? Dominicans and Haitians are technically the same people. The Europeans wen't to that island, killed a lot of the native americans on the island, then imported african slaves to the island. The only difference between the two is that one half of the island speaks spanish and the other half speaks french, but Dominicans hate the hell out of haitians and are racist towards haitians, when BOTH of them, the majority are of african descent. I heard during Trujllo's rule, he tried to ethnically cleanse the Dominican republic of haitian people. This man was a perfect example of a self hating dominican... It was an afro latino, a black man, who powdered his face to make it appear whiter, pilled some mixture in his hair to make it appear straighter, and even tried to cleanse his own race of people through mixing. He invited more europeans into the dominican republic to mix with the blacks there, because they hated haitians so much that they despised even sharing the same blood with them, and wanted to cleanse their island of the blood they shared with the haitians... Yes. They tries to ethnically cleanse THEMSELVES. The majority of dominicans were african descendants, among the first to rebel against their european oppressors. Here is the history. The french at first had complete control over the entire island. in 1804 the Haiti Massacre took place. When the blacks gained their independence from their french oppressors and then killed the remaining of the whites on the island. Soilders going house to house murdering entire white families. They did not trust the whites to live in peace with the blacks, and didn't want to risk being oppressed by whites after they worked so hard to drive away the french, so they killed the remaining whites on the island. After the africans massacred the white people off the island, they fought to keep the french away from ever coming back and oppressing the blacks there. While they were busy watching out for the french, they did not expect an invasion of their island by another group of europeans. The spanish invaded the island. The africans there lost a lot of land to these new europeans. This is the birth of the dominican republic. For a long time the french speaking half still had a lot of control over the spanish speaking half... Long story short, there is a lot of turmoil between the two halfs of the island. They see themselves as difference, but really they are the same and have the same ancestry, and no matter how hard the dominicans in the past tried to whiten themselves up, they STILL have the same blood as the people they despise most. Let's talk more about Trujillo. Trujillo is who inspired a lot of Dominicans to hate Haitians. Trujillo said that he was inspired by and idolized Adolf Hitler, and wanted to genocide the haitians the same way Hitler did to the Jews. It's ironic... Hitler's mother was Jewish and he hated Jews. Hitler was self hating... Trujillo really didn't like being a black man at all... Not only that, but he hated haitians, but his mother was haitian. I thought it was funny how the man he admired most(hitler) suffered from the same self hate issue that he(and not many Dominicans) suffer from. Well... The island was among the first to have african slaves imported and a LOT of them. Trujillo wanted to kill the haitians off his side of the island. They resembled each other and it would be hard to pinpoint a haitian and tell teh difference between a haitian and a dominican. The only difference was the language. So Trujllo made his soilders get a piece of Parsley and to differentiate between the haitians and the Dominicans, the soilders would have a group of people together, hold up the Parsley, and ask the people to tell them what it was. The Haitians native language is french, so the french speakers had a hard time rolling their "R"'s. Those who couldn't roll the R like a native spanish speaker were obviously not Dominican, so those people were killed on sight after mispronouncing what the soilders were asking them to identify.

I am rambling and lot of what I am typing may be out of place, and out of order, but that's some history for you. Dominicans sense the dawn of their country's birth were very self loathing people. They also still have a colonial "white is right" mentality... They are racist, not only to other people of african descent like them, but to any non dominican, and non white. If you are native american, despite a lot of dominicans being mestizo, they will be rude to you. They DON'T like asians, and they hate other blacks the most because they hate themselves. I don't know any people where the majority don't look down on Dominicans.

I think your family should move, if you live in a bad neighborhood where you can get shot. Forget about racism. This is all about agression and some people will find any excuse to hurt somebody. I posted to your other question, so I understand where you are coming from, but what you are dealing with is not really about race. They are just a**holes, bothering you because you are different from them. Unless you 'roll' with a bigger and badder gang, you may find that you are a constant target.

well, it can be easy for me to give you the typical 'well, you must have a problem with them' answer...but, part of the problem is that in the northeastern US ethnic groups tend to live in ethnic enclaves and if you are in one, and are not part of the dominant group, you will be messed with a little.....it's not that Dominicans are any different than anyone else....think of how a Dominican man would feel living in a Russian neighborhood....or how an Italian girl might feel living in Chinatown....
