I know what movie you are talking about...I think it is called Prancer. I know it is one of the names of the reindeer. Actually I just looked it up it is Prancer.

I remember seeing this film when I was 4 or 5 years old, making it about 29 years ago. The boy takes in the deer as an infant, which has been oprhaned due it's mother being killed (I think) Either way the boy raises the deer and suddenly without warning the boy's mum shoots the deer and kills it claiming it is to big to look after. I have been traumatised ever since! LOL.
Hopefully this hasn't ruined the film for anyone.
