WWF was the leader in the ratings for years in a row but WCW was always second and WCW was first for one week but only one week
ECW was a great program in the 90's unlike it's current form it was actually extreme but it never came close to WCW and WWF but it was still a great program

TV ratings wise WWE takes it but as far as the people go and the die hard fans i would say ECW as thier was never a empty seat in the place the fans is what made ECW and the fans made it possible for them to have a PPV..Hell ECW had such a big fan base and it was such a small promotion at the time even vince was scared of it and we all now what happend thier he went out and bought it so he didnt half to worry anymore or else paul and ECW would have killed WWE now if it was still the same ECW before vince got ahold of it and made it a big joke like WWE is now..

during the early 90s wwe had the biggest names in wrestling (hogan, flair, savage, andre, ultimate warrior, etc.) and even though most of those guys were gone by 1993 wwf still remained more popular than wcw until 1996 when wcw started using nWo.

wcw had higher ratings from 1996-1998 because of the nwo, guys like flair, sting, hogan and savage and its cruiserweight division. and was the most popular wrestling company until 1997 when stone cold was getting to be really big other guys like the rock and hhh were also rising though the ranks.

during the height of the attitude era(1999-2001) wcw lost most of its fans because of older guys like hogan and sting in main events and young guys not getting pushed. nwo never lost and had gained a lot of mid card members. the only newcomer getting pushed was goldberg. at the same time people were really getting into the vince-austin rivalry. people also liked guys like HHH and DX X faction and new main eventers like rock and mankind.

wcw did a lot of short term fixes to get higher ratings but they only worked for a short while. almost everything wcw did bakfired at them. wcw hired guys like russo but he made wcw even worse.

as much as russo and bichoff tried to make wcw better it was to no avail. the once highly rated nitro became deprived of wrestlers, with its most capable young stars signing with the wwe and its current roster of talent being constantly misused. wcws sharp decline in revenue and ratings would lead to time warner's sale of the company to the rival wwf.

since wwf has bought wcw and ecw it has been at the top of the mountain. with no competition it's storylines have gotten stale and getting kinda boring, but still wwf/wwe would be the biggest company and most popular company during the 90's (except for 1996-1998)
