How should I pronounce 'nougat' ?

Question

I don't mean nugget (as in chicken nuggets).
I mean - NOUGAT! As in the candy bar.

I thought it was just like 'Nugget'
but
my friend, yes Mr. K. again, says 'Nooogarrr'

Which is which is which ?

Ask for Noooogarrr in most shops and they say Eh! Then you have to repeat yourself and have to announciate Nugget loadly before they cotton on. Nooogarrr is the correct way though but you don't find that many people who know it, so why not go with the flow and mispronounce like everybody else.

Mr K is doing well... but you are a native English speaker (I think), so you could pronounce it however you liked... that's living diction- Mr K is doing prescriptive diction, telling you how it sounds, giving you the convention... and that can help you to communicate... but if enough people are with you, the language will change to the way you say it... I mean, it's hard to claim that the spelling is necessary for understanding...

If it's a bar, it's nugget. If it's the centre of a chocolate, it's noo-gaa.

Its entirely up to you how you promounce it. Also might depend on location.
Bit like Tom-ar-toe or Tom-ate-ow (tomato)
For me I say noo-gar.
