3 years ago my car was bought in SC at a major dealership. We got a huge discount interest rate because his credit was good. When it came down to paperwork we signed the contract, the account manager even walked us through the explanation of the contract. The contract was for 48 months at $277 a month. So we signed the contract and the car was mine. 2 days later the account manager had to call us back to redo the contract. (I still have the copies of his mistake) Now, here is the problem, I call the finance company to get payoff information and I find out that contract that we signed was a lease! In the beginning, we were never told the contract was not a lease! Is there a way for me to fight this! I'm an independent college student, I dont have much money, and I feel like I was scammed big time. If you could help lead me in the right direction, i would greatly appreciate it!

....once its signed its hard to fight. *thinks*

he said it was a contract you were signing the 2nd time? If so, you should be able to file a suit...he lied, tricked, deceived you and thats not legal.
(again, with you still signing the lease, its going to be tough)

Best bet is to see a lawyer; 1st visits/confrontations are usually free...call around and see.

im sorry- im only in my 1st semester of law school and cant quite remember EVERYTHING bout contracts/leases.
But he did decieve you, so you should have a shot.

See a lawyer.

If it happened 3 years ago, it's going to be hard to prove that you didnt know you were signing into a lease. Didn't the car have to be taken in for regular maintenance? Afterall, the car was only being leased and the owners would have wanted the car to be in tip top shape when it comes to turn the car around for a used car sale.

I think you didnt ask enough questions when you went into the negotiations.

I taught all of my kids to read everything that they sign..I don't give a damn what it is.........I have grossly upset bankers at the signing of mortgage contracts..I will sit and read every damn thing that is put in front of me...You know how many pages there is in those contracts. It takes forever and I ask questions.. I'm sorry that you didn't do that..An attorney may be of some help, but I doubt it. Good luck!

I would try to fight it. You almost have to prove that they told you this was a purchase, not a lease. If you can show that they did not tell you this was a lease, instead a purchase, this contract was not made in good faith.

You really should have read the paper work yourself. I don't think there is anything you can do about it now.
