* I agree with the other poster who said play a 9x9 board first. You'll be able to use much of the strategy of a full game and you'll be able to get more games in.

* If you haven't hought about it yet, try capturing territory on the corners and sides as part of a long term plan (in other words while not ignoring immediate tactics). Generally you can capture sides and corners without using as many stones.

* Play as many games as you can. A lot of Go involves seeing innumerable patterns and situations that would take you a lot longer to learn in a study session. Of course I suck at Go so take all this with a grain of salt but that's what's worked for me.
