First of all preeclampsia hits women of any age not just young mothers. Secondly, why are you worrying about it now? Are you pregnant and young? I was 18 when I had my first daughter and I had no problems with her. I was 20 when I had my second daughter and had a lot of problems with her such as preterm labor and bleeding. With my son I was 22 and he was a premature baby with minimal problems. I have seen many girls have babies under the age of 18 and not have any problems.

Despite extensive research, no one knows for sure what causes the condition. It's likely that there's no single explanation. Genetics, certain underlying diseases, the way your immune system reacts to pregnancy, and other factors may play a role. Most experts believe that many cases of preeclampsia actually begin early in pregnancy, well before any symptoms become evident. (taken from www.babycenter.com)
So experts don't even know and there is nothing that signifies what will cause it or if it will be caused. Hope this puts your worries to a minimal.

are you saying that you are going to have a child yourself or are you asking about your life later on?
17 is somewhat young to have a child in this decade but not really young now or in the past.
your chances of having a child with birth defects are not influenced by the fact your 17 much at all.
as time goes on and you see the doctor talk with the doctor about each of your questions. make notes in advance so you remember what to ask when you are there. some doctors might hurry you along and try to ignore your questions . explain to the doctor that you would like to have just a few moments more to learn a little more about the baby.
many books as you know will be helpful to you . ask the doctor if they have a list of books that they think would be of particular importance you and your child at this time.
your mother might also be a great source of information as well your mother in law.
i don't think there is anything for you to be worried about at this time except that your worried in the first place . put all of that aside and relax this is best for you and for the blessing that you have been given the privilege of looking after.

I had my son when i was 16, He couldnt be healthier. But I did everything to ensure that my son would be healthy and happy,
I didnt drink any alcohol
I didnt smoke anything OR be around people smoking
I ate three proper meals a day
And i took the appropriate vitamins that my doctor recomended
I think if you try to do everything rite you shouldnt have any troubles.
I think they say there are birth defects in young mothers for two reasons
1. some young women do stuff up while they are pregnant and end up doing harm, sometimes causing birth defects.
2. To scare young girls away from getting pregnant

Good Luck, How old are you ?

No and pre eclampsia is usually not because of the age of the mother it can happen to any women. It usually doesn't cause complications with the child in the long term as long as medical care was recieved promptly. The only concern with young mothers giving birth is they tend to have low birth weight babies and are more at risk for preterm labor.

I highly doubt that those are issues anymore since you are here asking questions. Other than that there is nothing to worry about.
If there were complications you would have known about them before now.

No, it's usually how older you are that makes birth defects. Being young doesn't usually pose any risks to the baby accept low birth weight and that's due to the fact that the mother herself isn't done growing. On the other hand if your other developed preeclampsia you are more likly to have it. Not because your young but because she had it while she was pregnant with you. I found that out today while sitting at the hospital being monitored for preeclampsia. Just take it easy, not too much salt and not too much stress. Happy Holiday's and good luck sweetie! Remember to take care of yourself while your pregnant for a healthier baby!

Preclamsia is not hereditary... it just comes while you are in the pregnancy period. Just walk about and avoid too much salt in what you eat - and remember to raise your foot while sleeping. These prevents edema. Follow your doctor's advice. Don't be pessimistic about it.

well that was in the old days because my mom was 17 and had some really bad problems with my older brother, but now days I have friends that are having babies around 16 and the babie comes out fine. so it depends on the person and the doctors that you visit

No, it's generally the opposite. Older women tend to have children with birth defects. But as all people are different, you never know. There are several tests your ob/gyn can run on you as well as the amniotic fluid to determine whether or not you are at risk.

GOOD LUCK and STAY POSITIVE!

Statistics show that the best age to have children is early twenties. That is because more women of that age produce children than any other.

I had all my three in my forties when statistics were against me and produced three healthy babies.

As long as your carers are aware of your mother's history they will keep a close eye on you

Preeclampsia doesn't have to do with age. Preeclampsia is a condition unique to pregnancy in which a mother develops hypertension often associated with signs such as water retention and protein in the urine. The mother may have symptoms such as headache, edema and visual disturbances such as blurred vision, tunnel vision or sparkles of light in her visual field. In advanced cases, she may experience pain in the upper outer quadrant of the abdomen which signifies liver involvement.
It isn't the age, but that has to do with highblood pressure. Stay stress free, and hopefully you wont get it.
