Just curious as thats all the cash ive got. Not talking about buying land or hiring builders, this is just for materials. I heard polystyrene blocks filled with concrete are cheap and easy to build with? Any one tried using them?

Yes , I built a 2bd 1bath hunting cabin in MI that is 800 sq ft. I spent about $12000 for materials. Concrete block foundation is cheaper than the foam blocks that use poured concrete. This price did not include the well or septic or land.---Don't listen to the others who say you can't. It can be done if you do ALL the work. Wood frame construction tends to be the cheapest. You will have to use the basic cabinets, counters, and fixtures. The one big problem is that many areas don't allow small homes. If you need some tips or more info, my email is available.

sure if you can live in 300 sq ft and do the work yourself ( lol )

TO BE SERIOUS there are cheap building materials and methods but you have to meet CODE and get permits ( which means a PLAN that has been approved by an ENGINEER )- by using a standard method and minimal finishing you can build a livable structure for around $30 - $50 per square foot in most of the country as far as the polystyrene - you would need the skill to stucco them ( it protects them from the sun ) and that engineer to certify the strength - re-bar in the concrete and a wood sill and top plate in most designs

To answer your question, yes it is possible. Is it practical, no. There is no way in this day and age to build a safe, by the code, home for that kind of money. Welcome to the world we live in...

I agree with BTrix. I would be very small. Countertops, flooring, lighting and everything else would have to be very standard.

Yes it is, but it would probably only be 600 sq. ft.

On the low-end, new construction is $150/sq. foot, so welcome to your 10X10 "house."

For that kind of money, your best-bet is a used trailer or 5th wheel.
