I have a 16 month old preemie; however, she's growing/catching up just fine. She's curretnly 31" and 23 pounds. After her breakfast, we take a bath and then play forabout an hour. Then, she shows signs of fatigue so I put her in her crib. Sometimes she will fall asleep, others she will play and babble for about 2 h ours! If it goes on that long and she doesn't fall asleep it's usualy because she had a BM and needs to be changed. Then, she wiill

go down after a diaper change. She, then, sleeps for about three hours and doesn't ahve lunch until about actual supper time. Is it OK to feed her twice per day? She will eat, after her nap, play for awhile, and then go down for the night around 7:00 - 8:00. I try to give her a variety and 16 - 20 oz. of liquid per day.

Should I wake her up to feel her if she's napping? I try to take her out of her crib, during the time that she's playing/babbling in there and she throws a fit unless she needs a diaper change.

I don't think she is getting enough personally. If she is only getting two meals a day you need to supplement some snacks in there for her. Shes at the age where she should take her good nap from about 12-3. She needs to be in a different routine because she is missing out on a lot. Maybe it isn't fatigue as much as it is being hungry. Instead of laying her down try finding a snack that she really enjoys and see how she responds after eating something. If she won't eat Breakfest, lunch, and supper give her the snacks. Shes not an infant anymore and you really shouldn't depend on juices alone.

There is more at issue than the eating. She is not being properly stimulated if she is wanting to be in her crib that long even when not asleep. We are missing something from the picture.... I think you need to discuss this with a developmental pediatrician, this is a dr who is specially trained to catch developmental problems early because early intervention is key.

She should be eating more and eating more solid foods, sounds like she is depending on liquid far too much. Please educate yourself on developmental stages of children, a great book is ages and stages. But there are lots, get busy and reading even if it's just books from the library. And get her into a developmental pediatrician.

She is napping way too much, she should be going full steam during the day with much shorter naps. I'm very concerned.

She should be eating 3 meals a day and having 2 or 3 snacks.

My son is 17 months and will do that play for 2 hrs in bed thing. After that long I get him up and we try the nap again later. He also takes 2 naps a day.

If she stays awake that long when you lay her down, more than likely she's not ready to lay down. Perfect time for lunch! After lunch, you can lay her down. Toddlers usually eat 3 meals with snacks in between, so I would try to adjust her schedule so that she's getting all the nutrients she needs in a day.
