Its a secret!

Freemasonry is open to all creeds colours & religions & is world wide, you only need to believe in God & be of good standing to join.It promotes a certain type of behavour more than anything.
To be one you need to ask one, you get a proposer & seconder then your application is put before a committee where you, your proposer & seconder are interviewed seperately (nothing heavy)
The committee then make their recommendation and a secret ballot is taken in open lodge
The form of this alters I believe from lodge to lodge, you do not necessarily need a clear ballot (no black ball) as to whether you be accepted or not as some lodges may allow say 3 black balls
We do carry out degrees which moves you up into different orders & adds to your masonic knowledge each time.
All of the rubbish you read as regards devil worship is a load of rubbish a lot of these answers are from people who have no knowledge of the masons at all & only know these old wives tales & for the record there are no masons in my lodge so not every police officer is a mason

For the record
1.Masonic Lodges are nothing to do with Orange Lodges
this is something entirely different
2. It is frowned on for any brother to try and use Freemasonry to get a job & any member found doing this will be reported and action taken against him

My Dad was a freemason ........ the main thing I know is that after you have joined if you do anything criminal you are out on your neck (and quite right too) the other thing is you can't join if you are female but there is something called the Eastern Star for women (I think).

It used to be really handy for jobs etc because you were classed as being a good trustworthy citizen. but not so much now as there was a lot of bad press

There is another type of lodge called the Orange Lodge - as far as I know they follow 1690 William of Orange and are seen during marching season mainly in NI and Scotland. A lot of bigotry involved.

A Masonic lodge is the building and membership of the Freemasons.Personal and social improvement through knowledge, charity, and brotherhood is (more or less) what they do.Why should you be afraid to "get involved"? Ignore any of those stupid `Devil worship` slanders that unknowing people use when they are ignorant of the subject. Freemasons do not stone people, persecute them, or promote violence against other beliefs, and encourage the pursuit of knowledge.

Mr. Snow,

I'd like to 'know' more and promote what I have discovered thus far in this lifetime. If you can assist the pursuit of this - please email me.

PS: A masonic lodge is where people meet to keep their families, community, and society strong. Masters of commanding the abstractions that effect most people's everyday lives. Far beyond a brotherhood.

You cannot be involved with the masons. You have to be invited to apply for membership and then the enrolled members take a white or black ball and a show is ordered. If there is one black ball shown you are out. That's where the saying to get black balled comes from.

not so much a question of should you get involved, as WOULD THEY HAVE you...they are a very private group, alledged to hold many secrets that if exposed to the outside world could cause the downfall of the masses....NOT...!! could you see yourself doing the funny handshake and dressed to kill????

They are very secretive, and you will get different answers from everyone. I know that most of the founding fathers were Freemasons. But i think it is different now.
